Iracundia for String Quartet (2013)


PROGRAM NOTE:
The Latin word Iracundia means irritability, a proneness to anger, hastiness of temper, and irascibility. This piece describes the particular type of hospital patients called “irritables” by doctors and also my personal experience of people. The special sound effects (see the performance notes) indicate those peoples' noises, expressions, and emotions. There are a few motivic ideas that are expressed and developed differently by each instrument in characteristic sections.
